Sell World and Ancient Coins in Dallas
World coins range from heavy silver crowns and foreign gold to a bag of leftover pesos and euros from a vacation. Chris sorts by metal first, so you know right away which pieces carry silver or gold and which are mostly souvenirs.
By appointment with Chris, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
How world coins are priced
Foreign gold and silver start from their metal, measured by the XRF reader and the inspected scale. A few world and ancient coins carry collector value on top. Most base-metal travel change has little value, and Chris tells you that plainly instead of padding the offer.
What separates one world coin from another
- Metal: gold and silver pieces have a floor, while copper, nickel and aluminum change usually does not.
- Size and type, since large silver crowns and world gold coins get the most attention.
- Age and authenticity, because ancient Greek and Roman coins need a careful look and copies are common.
- Condition and eye appeal, the same as with U.S. coins.
- Country, since some have deep collector markets and others have very few buyers.

World coins in Dallas
Dallas has always been a city of travelers. Oilmen came home from overseas fields with pockets of foreign change, servicemen brought back coins from Europe and the Pacific, and DFW Airport has sent generations of families abroad. Much of that change ends up in a dish on a dresser in Addison or a cigar box in a Preston Hollow study.
Most of it is base metal. Modern euros, pesos, yen and pounds in copper, nickel or aluminum are worth little to a coin dealer, and many older foreign coins are the same. Chris will say so honestly rather than let a big jar suggest a big check. If you plan to travel again, spending the change there is often the best use for it.
Silver is where the value starts. Many countries struck circulating coins in silver well into the 1900s, and large crowns and dollar-sized coins from Europe, Mexico and Canada can carry a good amount of metal. The XRF reader shows the silver content of each coin on screen, so nothing is guessed from the design.
World gold is easier to spot. British sovereigns, Mexican gold pesos, French gold francs and other foreign gold coins are priced on their gold content first, with a closer look for any dates collectors want. Krugerrands and gold Maple Leafs count here too.
Ancient Greek and Roman coins are their own world. Real ones turn up in Dallas collections, often from a relative who traveled or collected decades ago, but so do tourist copies sold near historic sites. Chris looks at weight, style and surfaces and gives you his honest read. If a piece needs a specialist, he will tell you.
Book a weekday time, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Sellers come in from Addison off Belt Line Road, from Irving and from the homes around Bachman Lake near Love Field. Bring the whole collection and a driver's license, and you will leave knowing what each part of it is worth.

Common questions
Is my foreign change worth anything?
Most modern foreign change is base metal and has little value to a dealer. Older silver coins and any gold are the exceptions, and Chris will sort them out for you.
How can I tell if a foreign coin is silver?
The XRF reader shows the metal content on screen with no scratching and no acid. Guessing from the color or design is unreliable.
Do you buy ancient Roman coins?
Yes. Chris looks at each ancient coin closely, since copies are common, and gives you an honest opinion along with an offer on the pieces he can stand behind.
Do you buy world gold coins?
Yes. Sovereigns, gold pesos, gold francs, Krugerrands and Maple Leafs are priced on their gold, with a check for any collector dates.
Should I clean old foreign coins?
No. Cleaning removes the original surface and lowers the value of any coin, foreign or U.S.
Can you exchange foreign paper money?
Chris buys coins and old U.S. currency. For modern foreign banknotes you want to spend or exchange, a bank or currency exchange is the better stop.
