Coin Dealer Serving Highland Park, TX

Highland Park money is old Dallas money, and a good share of it came out of the ground. Oil and banking families built the big houses on Armstrong Parkway, Lakeside and the streets above Turtle Creek in the 1920s and 1930s, and many of those houses are still in the same hands. When the grandchildren start sorting a closet, coins are often part of what turns up.

What comes out of the town reflects that history. A banker's widow kept a desk drawer of uncirculated Morgan dollars. An oilman bought U.S. gold double eagles and stacked them in a safe behind the study paneling. A grandmother picked up a proof set every year and never opened one. These were people who put money into hard things, and they bought quality. Some of those coins were bought at downtown banks that no longer exist, still in the original paper envelopes.

That quality matters at the appraisal. A Carson City Morgan from a family safe can be worth well beyond its silver, and a gold piece that has barely been handled may grade far above the worn coins passed around at hotel buying events. Chris checks each date, mint mark and grade so the better coins are not lumped in with the common ones.

Many Highland Park estates are large enough for a home visit. Chris can sit at the dining table on a weekday, go through the coins with the executor and a sibling or two, and leave a written list of every piece. No one has to carry a heavy box of gold out to a car parked on Mockingbird Lane.

Discretion counts on these streets. Neighbors talk at Highland Park Village and over lunch at the Dallas Country Club, and some families would rather no one knew they were selling. An appointment with Chris is private. There is no counter, no line and no audience, and nothing is discussed with anyone outside the family. If you would rather keep the matter out of the house entirely, you can bring a few pieces to an appointment in Dallas instead.

Executors working through Dallas County probate can ask for a written item-by-item appraisal. It lists each coin with its date, mint mark and grade, which keeps things fair when the heirs divide the collection before anyone sells. Call 469-599-3283 on a weekday to start.
