Sell Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars in Dallas
Morgan and Peace dollars are the coins Dallas families find most often in drawers and safe deposit boxes. Chris checks each one for date, mint mark and grade, then prices it against its silver so you know which coins are worth more than melt.
By appointment with Chris, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
How silver dollars are priced
Every Morgan and Peace dollar weighs 26.73 grams and is 90% silver, so each one holds 0.7734 troy ounces of silver. That sets the floor at today's spot price. Better dates, scarce mint marks and higher grades sit above the floor, sometimes well above. Chris shows you both the silver value and the collector value for each coin.
One worn Peace dollar at today’s spot price
26.73 grams × 90% silver = 0.7734 troy oz × spot $59.08 = $45.70 in metal
Melt value only. Collector value, when a coin has it, is priced separately and shown to you at the table.
What sets the price of a silver dollar
- Date: Morgans were struck 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, Peace dollars 1921 to 1935, and some years are far scarcer than others.
- Mint mark: CC, O and S coins can bring very different prices from the same year's Philadelphia coins.
- Grade: wear on the high points of the portrait and the eagle shows how much a coin circulated.
- Original surfaces, since cleaned or polished dollars lose collector value.
- Original packaging, such as GSA Carson City holders, which collectors like to see intact.

Selling silver dollars in Dallas
Morgan and Peace dollars show up in more Dallas estates than any other coin. Grandparents got them at the bank, saved them from paychecks, and tucked them in drawers from Mesquite to Carrollton. Many sat in paper rolls or canvas bags for decades. Whether you have one or a few hundred, each coin deserves its own look.
Start with the mint mark. On a Morgan dollar, turn the coin to the eagle side and look just below the wreath, above the word DOLLAR. On a Peace dollar, the mint mark sits on the reverse near the tip of the eagle's wing. CC means Carson City, O means New Orleans, S means San Francisco, D means Denver, and no letter means Philadelphia.
The silver math is simple. Every Morgan and Peace dollar weighs 26.73 grams at 90% silver, which works out to 0.7734 troy ounces. Multiply that by today's spot price and you have the floor. Plenty of worn, common-date dollars trade near that floor. The ones that do not are the reason Chris checks every coin instead of pricing a bag by weight.
Rolls and bags call for patience. A roll of twenty may hold nineteen ordinary coins and one better date. Leave rolls wrapped until you sit down with Chris, then open them together at the table. Do not dump them in a bowl or rub them clean, since cleaning lowers the grade and the collector value goes with it.
Carson City Morgans are a Texas favorite. Some families still have ones the government sold decades ago in GSA holders, with the original box and paperwork. Keep those together and unopened. The holder and box are part of what collectors want.
Sellers bring silver dollars from Garland near Duck Creek, from Irving along the Mandalay Canal, and from Old Downtown Carrollton. Chris sees silver dollar sellers weekdays from 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon. Bring a driver's license or state ID, and call 469-599-3283 to set a time.

Common questions
How much silver is in a Morgan dollar?
Each Morgan and Peace dollar weighs 26.73 grams and is 90% silver, which comes to 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver.
Where is the mint mark on a Morgan dollar?
On the reverse, below the wreath and just above the word DOLLAR. On a Peace dollar, look on the reverse near the eagle's wing tip.
Are Carson City Morgan dollars worth more?
Often, yes. CC dollars are popular with collectors, though value still depends on the date and grade. Coins in their original GSA holders should stay in them.
Should I open my rolls of silver dollars before selling?
No. Bring them wrapped and Chris will open them with you, so every coin is checked and nothing gets mixed up.
Are Peace dollars worth as much as Morgans?
They hold the same silver, so the floor is the same. Collector value differs by date, mint mark and grade within each series.
Do you buy silver dollars by the bag?
Yes. Bags and big rolls are welcome. Each coin still gets checked, so the better dates are paid for as collector coins.
