From the Heritage District to Las Colinas
Irving has lived two lives. The older city grew around Main Street and the Heritage District, with neighborhoods of brick ranch houses that filled up after World War II. Then Las Colinas rose out of ranch land in the 1970s and 1980s, with office towers around Lake Carolyn and the bronze Mustangs at Williams Square. The two halves of the city still feel different, and so do the coins that come out of them.
Both halves of the city call Chris, for different reasons. Families in the older neighborhoods off Irving Boulevard and Story Road are settling parents' estates, and the coins look like it: silver dollars, wheat cents, Franklin halves and a proof set or two. Las Colinas sellers more often hold bullion or graded coins bought during a corporate career. Both kinds of collection get the same careful look, coin by coin.
Football left its mark too. For decades Texas Stadium sat in Irving, and longtime fans sometimes kept commemorative coins and medals from those years. Chris will tell you honestly that most medals are worth their metal and little more, and that a silver piece is priced on its silver unless collectors want it.
Irving is also one of the most international cities in the area. Families from India, Pakistan, Mexico, Nigeria and Vietnam live in the apartments and newer neighborhoods along MacArthur Boulevard, and many brought gold and silver coins as family savings. Chris buys world coins and tests every piece with the XRF reader, so you see the gold or silver content on screen. Some of those coins are bullion and some carry collector value, and he tells you which is which.
University of Dallas faculty and retirees add another kind of collector: patient, curious, and fond of European coins picked up during a semester at the school's campus outside Rome. Chris looks at those pieces and gives a straight answer about what they are and whether they carry silver or collector interest. Old European silver can surprise people, in both directions.
Irving is in Dallas County, so Chris visits homes here for larger estates and collections. For a smaller lot, call 469-599-3283 on a weekday and book an appointment. Bring your ID and the coins just as you found them. If the family wants a written item-by-item appraisal for Dallas County probate, ask for one when you call.
